Firstly congrats to jeciimd for winning the BBT2 TOC and the $18k Aussie package that comes along with it.

Ended up in 5th, but didn't like the way I played this tourney. Going into it I was under the presumption that people would be taking more risks since it was a winner take all tourney. Therefore I would play it in a tighter fashion. I don't think this was the case and I couldn't turn on the switch to turn on the aggression. I think you need to get into at least a mini rush to get yourself in the mood.

Early on I played really tight, not much action. Got some chips on a semi-bluff KQs on a double suited board. Luckily a K on the river and luckily I didn't complete the flush as the other player, dnasty13, had the nut draw. Got some more chips vs the super aggro lucko with AK on a K high flop.

*** Donk Alert ***
Warning, the following series of donkishness is for reference only and should not be applied.

Hand 1:
Fuel55 raised utg, dnasty13 (smallish stack) shoves, sb (Rickylake) calls, i fold, fuel reshoves for about double, sb calls. fuel has JJ, small stack has AK, sb has A5o. WTF!!!! obv A on the board.

Hand 2:

a few hands later that Rickylake character raises utg, short stack shoves for a bit more than double his bet. He folds. WTF!!!

Hand 3:

I limp UTG with AA, hoping for a repop. Ends up folding around to that guy. T9x flop. He flop bets, I raise, he shoves. I say fuck but how can I fold. So I call. He flips over J9. WTF!!!

VinNay was so wrong when he classified this guy as Tier 4. This guy was obv not even Tier worth, I feel shame for whover lost heads up to this guy for him to get a seat. I lol'd at this series for a while, though would have lost it if I was on the other side of things.

*** end donkish series ***

At this point I was around 2nd in chips, and when the final table started I was prob 4/9. Here is where my problems lay. For some reason I hardly ever stole any blinds. I hardly ever got hands but that shouldn't matter. I know people were stealing my blinds, but I didn't really mind, for every 3 times I had my blinds stolen I pretty much had to make a resteal to get them back, which I did. My favourite target was lucko, who was extremely agro with an obv wide range. Restole on him a few times, and at one point he typed in "<-- calls very light". I responded with a "<-- raises ever lighter". Now I don't know if this played a part at all, but not too long after I reshoved his raise with KK and he relunctantly called with 22.

After that I completely pussied out. Couldn't c/bet, couldn't 4bet pf ... Lost a bunch of chips and was low again. Made a questionable call for the rest of my chips, but I think it was the right calculation. Wish I had the hand history on me so I could look at the numbers again, but folded to the button (Whiskygirl) who was pretty much shoving anytime it was folded to her. I called with QJs. I had 4kish with 300/600 blinds and can't remember the antes. She ended up with A2o, and I rivered a J.

I still played like a pussy after that, and eventually shoved with AT and called by AJ. Flush, T, or double pair did not hit the river, and i'm out.

So here is my final tally for Aussie Million winner take all qualifiers. 3rd, 4th, 5th x 2. No crocodile hunting for me in 08. I guess I'll have to wait for 09.

A thanks to Al for setting up the BBT2, look forward to the next one.

Nothing too exciting this weekend. Tried satelliting into the sunday majors, FT million and the UBOC ME, but failed. I dunno how I failed the FT one, was chip leader at one point. I guess with turbo tournies, anything can happen. Not sure why UB didn't run any multiple guaranteed seats tournies. All they had were $10r, $30r, and $75rs. For a premium tournament series they sure didn't give many opportunities to get in through satellites. Final tabled a Betfair $5k tourney, and came 20th in the Cake $100k. Betfair took a nice beat KK <> Adanthar's AA. I was reshoving a lot on the bubble with decent holdings, and this time I got caught. Other than that I don't think I won a showdown after that, pretty much just accumulating chips from steals and resteals. Lost a big chunk of chips QQ < 99. But all that aggressive play got me in trouble late, and eventually out 55 < 77.

Cash game side I was tearing it up. 2/4NL and 5/10limit. I've rediscovered my love for limit. Its so easy, and the majority are just so bad. But went on a total downswing yesterday. At one point I was up a buyin on 2 of my NL games and 10bbs on my limit game, but just swung right back down. Stoopid fn short stackers, they are my nemesis. Always manage to suckout on me.

Got Rockband for my birthday, and it rocks. I can't sing for shit, but can bang the drums pretty good. Not that good though, still on the medium level, hard is pretty difficult. The guitar playing is easier than guitar hero though, I can play the songs on hard pretty good.

Last week of poker for 2007 for me, actually probably only 4 days. Off to Mexico (Mayan Riviera) again for another wedding. Will prob do a recap/goal post later this week if nothing exciting happens in between.

For those who used my Excel Poker tracker, I have updated it and created a 2008 version. Pretty much the same but with a few more columns, drop down menus, and a few charts and graphs.

Harrah’s Entertainment Announces 2008 Schedule For 39th World Series Of Poker® Presented by Milwaukee’s Best Light TUESDAY DECEMBER 11, 2007 6:14pm PT LAS VEGAS

– December 11, 2007 – Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:HET) said today the 2008 World Series of Poker Presented by Milwaukee’s Best Light and televised exclusively on ESPN will – for the first time ever – begin and end with $10,000 buy-in World Championship events and feature a total of eight $10,000 championships. In addition, the 55-event schedule for 2008 includes a total of eight $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournaments, which traditionally draw the largest fields except for the Main Event. The WSOP has also added a second start day for the first of the $1,500 no-limit competitions to accommodate the expected number of entrants.

“This is our most exciting schedule yet,” said Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the WSOP. “Both amateur and professional poker players will have new opportunities to compete for a WSOP bracelet and can choose from the widest variety of games and buy-ins ever offered in one poker tournament and certainly at the WSOP. “We’re holding steady at 55 events this year,” said Pollack. “But, we’ve mixed it up a bit to keep it interesting for our players and fans.” The 2008 WSOP starts May 30 with the $10,000 buy-in World Championship of Pot-Limit Hold’Em and ends July 16 with the Final Table of the $10,000 buy-in World Championship of No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em – best known as the WSOP Main Event.

The six other $10,000 buy-in events – all World Championship competitions – include: Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’Em; Seven-Card Stud; Limit Hold’Em; Omaha Hi-Low Split Eight or Better; Pot-Limit Omaha; and a new Mixed Event. The Mixed Event will feature eight variations of poker: Limit and No-Limit Hold’Em; Omaha Hi-Low and Pot-Limit Omaha; Seven Card Stud; Razz; Seven Card Hi-Low Split; and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball. The second event of the 2008 WSOP is a $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament with two starting days – May 31 and June 1. Pre-registration for the 2008 WSOP can be made beginning in February on-site at the Main Cage of the Rio® All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas or at http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/.

In addition to the largest cash prizes in poker, winners of each of the 55 events will receive an exclusive World Series of Poker gold bracelet crafted by the luxury Swiss watchmaker CORUM. Last year, 54,288 entrants who ranged in age from 21 (bracelet winner Steve Billirakis) to 94 (Main Event contestant Jack Ury) competed for the poker world’s largest total prize pool of nearly $160 million. The 2008 WSOP will be staged inside the Rio Convention Center from May 30 through July 16. WSOP officials plan a “soft opening” of the tournament room on May 28 and 29 for players to register early and play in satellite tournaments and cash games. “The poker tent is gone,” said Pollack. “We heard folks loud and clear last year, and there will be no tents used for tournament play at the 2008 WSOP.”

On July 2, and in conjunction with the WSOP, Oscar nominee Don Cheadle and poker professional Annie Duke will host the second annual Ante Up For Africa charity tournament at the Rio. Last year’s AUFA event featured dozens of Hollywood celebrities and poker professionals and raised more than $700,000 for charity. Ante Up For Africa is a non-profit organization founded in 2006 by Cheadle, Duke and Norman Epstein and is dedicated to raising money and awareness for Africans in need.

July 3 is the first of four start days for the 2008 Main Event. Last year, a total of 6,358 entrants competed for a Main Event prize pool of $59.8 million. Players may choose their Main Event start dates as long as seats are available on the selected dates. Funny thing is, at the beginning I wasn't even playing properly. Was just fooling around raising with air, calling with ducks to big raises, etc. Got down to like 10bb after 1/2hr, and then built it up and I guess I didn't look back.
I think my key to this one was resteals. I restole more in this tourney than I usually do, and never got looked up.
Headsup with lightning36 was the longest I have ever played. 1 hand!!!! AQ > 99 allin preflop. Finally won an important flip.
Theres still 4 more events left for the Battle of the Bloggers so come join me!

Poker Legend David 'Chip' Reese Dead at 56

December 04, 2007
Amy Calistri

The poker world erupted with shock and condolences this morning as news spread that three-time WSOP bracelet winner and legendary cash-game player David "Chip" Reese died early today, at the age of 56. His dominance in poker was so pronounced that in 1991 he was the youngest player ever inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame, an honor usually bestowed on those after a lifetime of achievement.

After graduating from Dartmouth College, Reese headed for Las Vegas with plans to attend Stanford Business School in the fall. But during that summer, Reese won a tournament for $40,000 and continued to grow his bankroll to over $100,000 and never went on to graduate school. In 1978, Chip Reese won his first WSOP bracelet in the Seven Card Stud Split event. In 1982, Reese scored another WSOP bracelet in the $5000 Seven Card Stud event. In Super/System, Doyle Brunson called Reese "the best Seven Card stud player I've ever played with."

Reese devoted less time to tournament play in deference to cash games and was a regular in the "Big Game" at the Bellagio. He was also a renowned sports bettor, considered to be a preeminent baseball handicapper.

In 2006, the World Series of Poker featured a $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event for the first time. For professional players, the event represented the ultimate test of all-around poker skill and its bracelet was more coveted by high-stakes pros than even that of the Championship event. After an epic seven-hour, heads-up battle against Andy Bloch, Chip Reese prevailed to win $1.7 million and his third, and now final, WSOP bracelet.

Mike Sexton had this to say upon learning of Reese's untimely passing: "Chip Reese was probably the most successful poker player in history. He was also the youngest player ever inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame, and deservedly so. For years, most players considered Chip to be the best all-around poker player and by winning the inaugural $50,000 buy-in HORSE tournament at the 2006 WSOP, he cemented that status. Chip has always been admired by players for his success, his demeanor at the table, and that he never steamed or went on tilt."

Continued Sexton, "When you mention poker 'greats', put Chip Reese on the top of the list."

I wish I could show hand histories on cake, as it would be a great example of how to abuse the bubble. Was approx 25/50. By the time the bubble burst ended up 1/40 and only 1 showdown and not an allin. I raised most hands, made calculated cbets and check raises, and it worked.

Went card dead after it got down to 2 tables, could only gather chips off of blind steals and I think 1 resteal. Got really low and had to shove any 2 on the SB. 84s < TT to deny me another 1k+ score. This tourney takes longer than I thought, gonna be at least 5hrs.
